David Luiz transfer update: Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain expected to make bids in summer transfer window [VIDEO]

David Luiz's transfer saga has officially extended beyond the Iberian Peninsula. French outfit Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly looking to bring the Brazilian defender to Ligue 1.

With current defensive midfielder Alex looking to leave in the summer transfer window, reliable French source L'Equipe are reporting David Luiz and his versatility would serve as the club's heir apparent in 2014 (h/t the Mirror). Meeting Chelsea's price tag should prove to be of little concern for PSG, especially with the Qatari-based funds at the club's disposal.

A bidding war, however, could price them out of the market.

Looking for an heir apparent of their own, Barcelona's prolonged pursuit of Luiz is on the verge of desperation. The announced retirement of former club captain and iconic defender Carlos Puyol has left an already susceptible defense in dire straits. Finding a competent center-back remained a priority for the Catalan giants following the January Transfer window. It'll be even more so now with the club's depth taking a hit at the end of the league campaign.

An expected bid of €30 million is expected for the 26-year-old international, this according to Jason Burt of The Telegraph.

No move has been agitated by Luiz, but Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is aware a transfer could be imminent come June. His acquisition of French center-back Kurt Zouma in January would help soften the blow of Luiz's departure.

Barcelona already had one formal bid for Luiz rejected in 2013. A bid in excess of £50 million was his ultimate cost.
