Arsenal transfer news: Joel Campbell's goal enough to return the Costa Rican to London? [VIDEO]

Joel Campbell did it again. This time, it was Paraguay that suffered the wrath of his cultured left foot.

The 21-year-old star featured for his native Costa Rica in an international friendly against Paraguay on March 5. The two played 42 minutes of scoreless football before Campbell took it upon himself to open the scoring. A world-class chip bested the defender bearing down on his slender frame and left goalkeeper Fernandez Roberto utterly paralyzed between the posts.

The rattling stands of Costa Rica’s national stadium could be felt all the way to London.

Despite being signed from his native land in 2011, Campbell is yet to feature for his parent club Arsenal. Even after finally receiving a work permit in 2013, the young Costa Rican would once again be sent out on loan—this time to Greek powerhouse Olympiakos.

Even in Greece, Manchester United were unable to escape the prowess of a Gunner.

The strike that shook the UEFA Champions League world brought Campbell into the limelight. As reported by Paulo Freitas of Sky Sports, he still anticipates a return to Arsenal in the not-so-distant future. “I am still hopeful of playing for Arsenal, but I have not been given the chance yet,” Campbell said. “I am making sure that I take this opportunity. Thank God I scored a goal and celebrated it with my father, girlfriend and cousins,” he added.

“There are many things I can improve on, though. I am 21 and I have to keep working.”

Campbell’s goal on Wednesday night highlights his progress, but was it enough to convince Arsene Wenger he deserves a chance with the first-team in London? Tell us @SportsWN
