NBA Rumors: Phil Jackson secretly met with New York Knicks about becoming head coach?

Phil Jackson secretly met with New York Knicks president and general manager Steve Mills about the possibility of becoming the team's next head coach, allegedly.

According to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, Jackson met with Mills about two weeks ago in an undisclosed location. Though sources told ESPN Jackson indicated he was not interested in the proposed opening at this time, the fact that he was willing to meet with team officials is seen by some as a positive signal.

It's been a season of disappointment for the Knicks, who after a 50-plus win season in 2012-13 have struggled to a 22-41 start this season and are far removed from the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Knicks, who snapped a seven-game losing streak with a win over Minnesota on Wednesday, are 18 games under .500 and 5½ games out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the watered-down Eastern Conference.

The 68-year-old Jackson has a career record of 1,155-485 in 20 seasons with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers and has won 11 NBA championships with lineups that have featured such stars as Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal.
