Bob Costas pink eye caused by botched Botox? [VIDEO] NBC spokesman denies analyst's Sochi Olympic Games ailment had to do with Botox

One of the more memorable non-competition moments that took place at this year's Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia had to do with NBC analyst Bob Costas and his curious case of pink eye. Costas' pink eye took over many headlines during the Sochi Games, and after it was reported that the outbreak was caused by a botched Botox procedure, NBC denied the claims.

The New York Post reported that Costas' pink eye stemmed from a Botox procedure gone awry in their infamous Page Six on Thursday. Costas interviewed U.S. President Barack Obama on Feb. 6, which was the night before the Opening Ceremonies, and described what his eye was like next morning.

"My left eye was like a slit, and I'm thinking, 'What the hell?' I'm also thinking maybe I put a few eye drops in and it resolves itself," Costas told reporters about the pink eye outbreak, according to the New York Post.

He added that his doctor immediately "realized something was wrong." Costas then had to take a six-day hiatus from covering the Games while suffering with viral conjunctivitis in both eyes.

According to the report, it was believed that Costas contracted the infection after a Botox treatment to smooth out wrinkles prior to the Olympics didn't go according to plan.

"Bob's eye infection was due to botched Botox. This isn't the first time he's had it," an anonymous source told the newspaper.

NBC, however, refuted the claim by the New York Post.

"This has zero truth to this. Zero," an NBC Sports spokesman said via Fox News.

Costas missed almost a week of the Olympic coverage after the infection spread from his left eye to his right eye, and Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira sat in for him in his absence.

According to the Post, doctors said that it is rare to contract an infection from a Botox injection unless there was contamination or the patient suffered an allergic reaction.

It's unknown what the cause of Costas' eye troubles were, but NBC insists it wasn't Botox.
