Fantasy Football: Darren Sproles' value as an Eagle? LeSean McCoy stock dropping, carries to dip? [GIF]

The New Orleans Saints traded RB Darren Sproles to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fifth-round pick and ended the Sproles drama in NOLA. Sproles was a nice fantasy surprise in 2013 and in PPR he was a high RB2 if not a low RB1.

Moving to the Eagles, Sproles gets a chance to be a part of the Chip Kelly project and Sproles should be ecstatic. Sproles is the type of scat back that Kelly wanted Bryce Brown to develop into last year to no avail.

Sproles will plug right in to Kelly’s system and will play a little of everything. Sproles will play the slot, he will play change of pace running back, but most importantly is he will give LeSean McCoy breaks without throwing the team into a frenzy.

I do not believe the addition takes much value away from McCoy, but it most likely means the end of Bryce Brown. McCoy will command the workload of touches and he makes the most out of each of them a sit is, but if he wants to stick around he needs a back like Sproles to take the heat and hits off him.  The only problem that can arise with Sproles is his age. He is 30-years old and history tells us that running backs start to break down rapidly at 30. The Saints credit that fact to ridding themselves of Sproles in the first place.

The risk of drafting Sproles is outweighed by his vast potential in Kelly’s offense. He takes no hit from switching teams and might even get a bump in value. If you planned on keeping Sproles in your league continue to do so and congratulations. Sproles is a solid flex play at this point and can go as high as high RB2 and as low as high flex in a PPR league.
