The Obama administration has enlisted the aid of NBA star LeBron James in promoting the nation's new health care law.
With Obamacare enrollees reportedly still lagging among younger people, President Obama is hoping the 29-year-old, four-time league MVP and two-time defending champion might be able to help boost enrollments in that sector.
According to USA Today Sports, the president personally called James to ask for his assistance.
"Any way I can help the president, that's pretty cool," said James, who has visited the White House the last two years after leading the Heat to back-to-back titles and reportedly has even played hoops with Obama before. The newspaper also reports James donated $20,000 to the president's 2008 campaign and participated in several fundraisers during his reelection campaign.
While not the only athlete to make a pitch on behalf of the Affordable Care Act, James is by far the most prominent. He, Dwyane Wade and other Miami Heat teammates have also previously participated in First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" promotions.
