A-Rod steroid scandal: Alex Rodriguez still owes his lawyers $3 million for fight against Major League Baseball suspension? [VIDEO]

It's difficult to determine what reality under which Alex Rodriguez lives.

The New York Daily News is reporting that an anonymous source has indicated A-Rod as owing as much as $3 million in legal fees he has not paid for his defense against accusations by Major League Baseball that he took steroids and human growth hormones.

Rodriguez originally hired attorneys to help him fight a 211-game suspension for his involvement in the Biogenesis Clinic just outside Miami, Fla. Then he hired more lawyers to sue his doctor over claims of a misdiagnosed injury, according to the Daily News.

He withdrew his lawsuit against MLB and the players union, sensing he was in a no-win situation. The Daily News reported that it is uncertain which lawyers Rodriguez owes. The source indicated that the exiled New York Yankees third baseman owes his primary attorney, Joseph Tacopino, but Tacopina denied that A-Rod owes him.

"I have absolutely no fee dispute whatsoever with Alex," Tacopina said, according to the Daily News. "He has been entirely fair and responsible with respect to the payment of my fees."

The Daily News added that Rodriguez has paid some of the bills, also has ignored multiple attempts from creditors to collect on his debt.

Rodriguez has claimed that he intends to return to the Yankees in 2015. The newspaper reported that he also intends to reconcile with MLB because he hopes to work as a broadcaster or a team owner when his career is over for good.

"If he resists paying, he will pay anyway and he will suffer," the Daily News source said. "If he forces people to prove he owes them money, the issues that he discussed with his attorneys will be made public - and Alex doesn't want people telling the truth."

The confidentiality agreement between the lawyer and client is subject to cancellation in the event that the defendant points out any mistakes that were made on his behalf.

If A-Rod told his defense team that he uses PEDs, the lawyers would be able to bring up the subject in defense of how they handled his case.
