Basketball legend and current Charlotte Bobcats majority owner Michael Jordan did not apologize to Philadelphia 76ers guard Tony Wroten after the Air Jordan sneaker worn by the latter fell apart during last week's game against the Indiana Pacers.
Earlier this week, the Delaware News Journal reported that Wroten said he received an apology from Jordan after figuring in the embarrassing incident.
"It was more embarrassing than anything," Wroten was quoted as saying by the media outlet on Wednesday. "But things happen. I got an apology from Jordan. Yeah. ... He called my agent."
However just this Friday, ESPN.com published a story retracting Wroten's statement. It quoted Wroten's agent Greg Lawrence as saying that the Sixers guard was misquoted. Lawrence told ESPN.com: "Tony told me that the media asked him if he thought Jordan would apologize and he answered, 'He can call my agent."
The agent added that the 20-year-old is not an endorser of Jordan Brand but gets compensated by Nike.
The Delaware News Journal added that Wroten is known around the league for his vast collection of shoes. He was wearing an Air Jordan 10 varsity red sneaker when he tore the sole off his shoe as he was driving to the basket. Play briefly came to a halt and Wroten proceeded to the locker room to get another pair.
It was the third time in two weeks that a player's Nike shoes tore off during a game. Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs and Andrew Bogut of the Golden State Warriors also experienced similar issues with their shoes.
