Washington Wizards veteran guard Andre Miller aired his side on his suspension while with the Denver Nuggets, saying he was portrayed to be the bad guy because of his complaints about his playing time.
Miller, who was traded last month to the Wizards, told Yahoo! Sports: "I was made out to be the bad guy, the villain because I was the one complaining about minutes. That wasn't the issue at all."
Miller had a falling out with first-year coach Brian Shaw, who benched him on January 1 that led to the first "Did Not Play-Coach's Decision' of his career. Sources told Yahoo! Sports that he screamed at Shaw and launched a tirade in the locker room after the game. He was then suspended for two games before being excused from team activities.
"They gave me an opportunity to represent Denver," Miller continued. "I tried to do that the right way, but I was looked at as the bad guy, a disgruntled player. [The Nuggets said] I was complaining about minutes and that was never the issue. They made it look that way, and that I was upset. I understand that they have to protect themselves as an organization, but don't blast the player."
Miller had two stints with the Nuggets, playing there from 2003 to 2006 and again from 2011-2014. He has a home in the Mile High City where he lives in the offseason.
While he does not plan to talk to Shaw, he still expressed hope that the new coach will succeed. "He has to do his job. A young coach - it's a learning experience for him and the players dealing with that situation. Hopefully, things will work out for him."
