Michael Vick's arrival in New York already may be paying dividends for the Jets.
The New York Post is reporting that the Jets are interested in trading for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson. The Eagles reportedly may waive their star receiver if they cannot find a trade partner willing to meet their demands for Jackson.
A league source told the Post that, "There is no doubt (the Eagles) want to move him," and that the Jets would be willing to discuss his acquisition but not at his current salary. Jackson is scheduled to make $10.5 million in 2014, but a tweet from the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta indicates that Jackson is unwilling to restructure his contract.
But with Vick in the fold in New York and Jackson likely to make less if the Eagles waive him, the Jets still are a viable option.
"If there's an opportunity to get DeSean, I'm pretty sure the New York Jets fans would be in favor of that," Vick said, according to NFL.com. "But who knows? It takes a lot to make a trade happen (with) all of the intricacies of a contract. It's not for us as players to decide. But hopefully everything will work out for DeSean. If he ends up in New York, we'll be happy, just as happy as he will be. But who knows, you can't say."
NFL.com is reporting that the Carolina Panthers, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers also are interested in acquiring Jackson.
The Patriots offer Tom Brady but just gave $12 million to cornerback Darrelle Revis and just signed the Panthers' Brandon LaFell. Carolina is in desperate need of receivers but quarterback Cam Newton is out until training camp because of ankle surgery.
Jackson would have to share the ball with Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis in San Francisco and the Raiders are ... well, the Raiders.
The Jets just signed Eric Decker, but he is not thought of as a No. 1 receiver. And Vick, Jackson's teammate in Philadelphia the past few seasons, should compete with Geno Smith for the starting Jets job in 2014.
And Vick and Jackson could split expenses on a moving company.
