New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is one of Jay-Z’s newest clients to his sports agency Roc Nation Sports, but before Cruz signed on he and Jay-Z had some issues.
Cruz spoke on Hot 97 about everything from the New York lifestyle, Justin Tuck leaving and whats it like to have Jay-Z on speed dial. Cruz went into how he and Jay-Z had a breakdown in communication that resulted in a small beef between the two.
"He threw a party at [his] 40/40 [club] after we won the Super Bowl," Cruz said "I had no clue about it. I guess somebody from the Roc camp reached out to somebody that I was or was not working with at the time. They called him or her and was like, 'Yo, we're trying to get Victor [to] this party.' And they was like, 'Nah, Vic's not showing up unless he gets $30K.' “
Cruz said that he wasn't involved in that conversation and wasn’t aware of any hard feelings until he and Jay-Z were in the same room together.
"I saw Jay and ‘Pecas’ at a game, and I ended up bum-rushing this back room that they were all in at halftime, and nobody said a word to me. And I'm in there like, 'I'll just go to the back.' I had no idea why.”
After the awkward confrontation Cruz got to the bottom of it by going right to Atlantic Records, Michael Kyser and he told him about the miscommunication and that Cruz rubbed Jay-Z the wrong way.
"I went to the [40/40] to watch Floyd Mayweather [fight]. After the fight, I kind of went up to Jay and apologized to him for what happened and my people and having that mix-up or whatever it was; I had no clue about it. He was cool. He was like, 'I respect that.' We were cool from then on.”
Apparently the two kept in touch after because Cruz ended up signing with Roc Nation Sports and claimed to have Jay Z “number 3” on his speed dial. Cruz is from the North New Jersey area before going to the University of Massachusetts. Cruz was a undrafted free agent of the Giants in 2010 before breaking out on the scene to become the Giants top receiver.
