Justin Verlander approves of cutting class? In doctor's note to teacher, father writes son has to see, 'Dr. Verlander' [VIDEO}

A Detroit Tigers fan was awfully proud of the doctor's note he created for his son to miss school on Monday.

Chris Steinert wrote to his son's teacher using notebook paper, according to MLB Fan Cave, asking that his son be excused because of a doctor's appointment.

The note read, "Please excuse my son Chris Steinert from school today, he has an appointment with Dr. Verlander."

The father signed his own name at the end of the message. It was unclear whether Steinert Sr. actually delivered that not to his son's teacher or whether he just wanted to show how clever he was on Twitter.

The tweet did gain attention for Steinert Sr., so mission accomplished there.

Verlander, however, did not live up to his end of the bargain as a doctor on the mound. He gave up three runs - two earned - on six hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out two, and received a no decision after leaving the game with the Tigers trailing the Kansas City 3-1.

The Tigers came back with two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth and beat the Royals 4-3.

Despite being one of the most dominant pitchers in the American League for the past several seasons, Verlander is 1-1 in seven consecutive starts for the Tigers on Opening Day, according to ESPN.com.

ESPN.com added that Verlander had pitched 20 scoreless innings during spring training.

"I never seem to find a win on opening day, but the bullpen shut them down and we got one anyway. That's all that matters," Verlander said. "Every opening day is special, but this one meant a little more, because I had to really work and grind to get here for this one after the surgery."

Which means that next year, Steinert may want to reconsider which soccer game to attend.
