DeSean Jackson released: Washington Redskins on the verge of signing Jackson, thanks to RGIII? [VIDEO]

The Washington Redskins may be a professional football team, but they sure put the full-court press on free-agent wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

TMZSports.com reported that the franchise sent Robert Griffin III to "hang out" with Jackson in Los Angeles in advance of his visit to Washington D.C. Monday.

According to TMZ Sports, the visit between Jackson and Griffin went well and the meeting may have given the Redskins the upper hand among the teams negotiating to sign Jackson.

After Jackson arrived in Washington D.C., WPEN-TV Philadelphia Eagles beat reporter Tim McManus tweeted that that a source close to Jackson said his joining the Redskins was "a done deal," as reported by NJ.com.

NJ.com added that CSN Washington Redskins beat writer Tarik El-Bashir refuted that the deal was done in a tweet a few minutes later.

Jackson had dinner with new Redskins coach Jay Gruden on Monday night, and he will spend today in Washington as well, attending more meetings and undergoing a physical, according to a tweet by Washington Post writer Mike Jones. Larry Brown Sports cited an ESPN 980 report that Jackson is looking for a $9 million contract or better. The Redskins currently are a little below that amount of money in cap space. Larry Brown Sports reported that Washington has just less than $7 million, whereas teams such as the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills have about $14 million under the salary cap.

But the Redskins have some maneuverability to get close to what Jackson wants as compensation.

On Monday night, Jackson was in a photo with Redskins DeAngelo Hall and Pierre Garcon that was tweeted out. Even if a deal has not yet been reached, enough evidence exists to show the Redskins as the frontrunner.
