Tonight at 10:05 p.m. ET, the Seattle Mariners (1-0) and Los Angeles Angels (0-1) take the field today at Angel Stadium of Anaheim to continue their opening series. Erasmo Ramirez takes the mound for the Mariners after going 5-3 with a 4.98 ERA last season while C.J. Wilson takes the ball for the Angels after going 17-7 with a 3.39 ERA in 2013.
Ramirez takes the mound without feeling any added pressure to follow up on the M's 10-3 Opening Day victory on Monday.
"Whether it's the first, the 10th or the 20th game, I always feel like today is the day. I just have to do all I can," said Ramirez, according to MLB.com. "I'll give 100 percent, 200 percent, and just go as deep as I can into the game."
Wilson is trying to put a lackluster start to 2013 behind him after posting a 5.03 ERA last April.
"I felt like if I didn't have an average April, I would've had a better season overall," Wilson told MLB.com. "I felt like I had a good season, but I'm trying to be better than I was last year; trying to pick up where I left off."
The Angels are looking for a strong start to the season overall after they stumbled out of the gate in 2013 and weren't able to recover while finishing in third place in the AL West.
"If I had my druthers, yeah, I would love to have a good start," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said per MLB.com. "But if you kind of stub your toe a little bit in April, it doesn't mean that a team like this, with the potential that we have and the depth that we have, is not going to turn it on and get back into a race and reach your goal. Naturally, you want to get off to a good start."
Second baseman Robinson Cano will play his second game with his new club and the Mariners hope he'll build off of Monday, where he went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored in his debut with the team.
"He came probably more than advertised as far as the quality of person and his desire to win and help young players on this team," manager Lloyd McClendon said via MLB.com. "On a scale of one-to-10, he's probably been a 15."
Mike Trout picked up right where he left off and is already earning his big contract extension after he launched a homer in his first at-bat of the season in Monday's loss.
The Mariners and Angels will continue their opening series against each other when the lights come up at Angel Stadium in Anaheim tonight.
