The TFC now offers an almost-video game-like appeal for UFC fans -- except in real life.
Deadspin.com reported the existence of Team Fighting Championship, in which team teams of five fighters square off in a mixed martial arts-style event with an uncanny twist.
Once one fighter from one team taps out or is counted out, his winning opponent is free to help his teammates in their one-on-one matches. From there, the match finishes fairly quickly because of one team's ability to gang up on the other team's remaining fighters.
It's the closest thing to having a professional wrestling match that is not staged or scripted.
Teamsfight.com, apparently the home of TFC, will make team fights available for registered users.
Both Deadspin and extramustard.si.com predict that the TFC likely would never be sanctioned in the United States, but both sites seem to approve of the event as a spectator sport.
Extramustard.si.com's assessment that "You truly are only as strong as your weakest link" is spot on. The interesting thing about the sport (in which the teamsfight.com website encourages ideas and suggestions) is that the first fighter to be disqualified by tap-out or count-out is the least-punished fighter on the losing team.
The fighter that is able to last the longest on the losing team is subject to the most horrific beating because that fighter is on the wrong end of a 5-on-1 skirmish.
