Detroit Lions rumors: Lions to swap picks with Raiders? Is Sammy Watkins Detroit's No. 1 prospect? [VIDEO]

It’s no secret, even with the signing of Golden Tate, the Lions are in the market for wide receiver help. The recent reports have confirmed that as the Lions are attempting to get into the Top 5 to select receiver Clemson’s Sammy Watkins.

Sports World News NFL Mock Draft 4.0

The Lions ending up with Watkins is complicated considering the needs of teams inside the top 10. The rumored position the Lions are trying to move to is the No. 5 pick that the Oakland Raiders own. This tells us that the Lions expect Watkins to be there at the fifth pick and the Raiders have been very vocal about trading back.

Teams Ranking Derek Carr over Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater

This is a move that will very likely not occur until Draft Day as the Lions do not know where Watkins will end up. Reports have come out from Rams camp that St. Louis is in the final stages of deciding if they will take Watkins or Khalil Mack if they cannot trade out of the No. 2 spot. The obvious answer to this dilemma is the Rams and Lions will end up swapping picks, but I don’t believe Detroit wants to purge their future picks. Clearly trading to No. 2 would cost more than moving to No. 5 and the Raiders desperation to move back could work to the Lions advantage.

Teams Looking to Pair Carr Brothers After Draft

The Lions have met with Watkins on multiple occasions including the combine, pro day and private workout. The Lions clearly want to match the freakish talent of Watkins with the games best receiver in Calvin Johnson, but if the Lions cannon trade up and are stuck at the No. 10 spot they could still grab Texas A&M’s Mike Evans or solidify their secondary with Oklahoma State’s Marcus Gilbert.
