Extreme Rules 2014 matches [VIDEO]: Brock Lesnar appearing? Updates on Intercontinental championship, Cesaro, Divas and more

The WWE is set to get extreme for their first pay-per-view event since WrestleMania XXX, however the man that arguably made the biggest impact on the grandest stage in New Orleans likely won't be in attendance. Brock Lesnar, who ended The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak, won't be at the event.

Former WWE writer believes The Undertaker wanted The Streak to end

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Lesnar is not currently booked for Extreme Rules when it airs on Sunday night, May 4 live from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J., but he will likely be a huge part of the SummerSlam pay-per-view in August with the current rumors calling for a match pitting him against Daniel Bryan for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Regarding the WWE Intercontinental Championship tournament, the original plans called for a four-way match on Monday Night RAW pitting Big Show vs. Jack Swagger vs. Cesaro vs. a fourth man --likely Christian (if healthy) --with the winner facing Big E at Extreme Rules for the title.

Update on CM Punk's WWE status

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Vince McMahon felt that winning a four-way match would do nothing to elevate a new No. 1 contender for the IC Title and that a tournament would create a better, more serious contender. Christian has not been cleared from his concussion, but that did not factor into the change in plans.

Cesaro is likely to win the tournament because he was penciled in to win the fatal four-way match, leading to the belief that the plans will transfer over into the tournament. Big Show wasn't put into the tournament because the WWE wasn't going to have him win and didn't want him to get pinned or lose cheaply to a disqualification.

Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that Cesaro is set to get a push as a heel, but the WWE was handing out "Cesaro Section" signs to fans at shows as a way to build his character as a heel that the fans want to turn into a face.

Cesaro will remain a heel with Paul Heyman while the WWE wants the fans to create a groundswell to turn Cesaro face in a similar fashion to Daniel Bryan's popularity. This will likely lead to a match with Lesnar down the road.

The WWE Divas match between Paige and Tamina Snuka was reportedly originally supposed to be a rematch pitting A.J. Lee vs. Paige, however the company changed its mind when Lee asked for time off.

Triple H will team with Randy Orton and Batista to take on The Shield in a six-man tag team match at Extreme Rules, however Triple H reportedly suffered a muscle injury in his leg during his WrestleMania XXX match with Bryan and had it taped up on RAW. Still, "The Game" should be good to go on May 4.

While most of the card is set with the Divas match, IC title match and six-man tag team match in addition to the John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt Steel Cage match at Extreme Rules, there are rumors of a Daniel Bryan vs. Kane contest for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and an Alexander Rusev squash match against someone if time permits.

WWE Extreme Rules airs live on Sunday night May 4 from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J.
