Investors are lining up for a chance to acquire the Buffalo Bills after owner Ralph Wilson died last month, with Hall of Famer Jim Kelly joining a list that includes real estate mogul Donald Trump and rocker Jon Bon Jovi among the prospective buyers of the NFL franchise.
As the Associated Press via Yahoo Sports reports, Erie County deputy executive Richard Tobe has said that as many 10 prospective groups have contacted him about the possibility of acquiring the franchise. Wilson's death has increased the likelihood that the Bills will leave the city which has been its home for more than five decades. Two likely landing spots are Toronto and Los Angeles, because these cities provide prospective owners the opportunity to make more money than in Buffalo, the second-smallest market in the NFL.
According to Forbes, the franchise has a value of $870 million although there is a chance that the team can be sold at a higher price because it is not too often that an NFL team is sold.
While the formal bidding process won't happen anytime soon, all indications are that the prospective buyers are ready to go through the process.
Kelly, the Hall of Famer who has been undergoing treatment of sinus cancer, is also interested with his brother Dan telling AP last week that: "Jim will be an active participant in it moving forward."
Also in the mix to join the bidding process are Trump and Bon Jovi, who has close ties with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment which owns the Raptors in the NBA and the Maple Leafs in the NHL.
