Tonight at 8:15 p.m. ET, the Pittsburgh Pirates (9-14) and St. Louis Cardinals (12-11) take the field at Busch Stadium in St. Louis for the first game of their three-game set. Pittsburgh is coming off of a homestand that saw the team go 2-6 against their division rival Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds while St. Louis comes home after a 4-6 10-game road trip against the Brewers in Milwaukee, the Nationals in Washington D.C. and the Mets in New York

Gerrit Cole will toe the rubber for the Pirates after going 2-1 with a 3.67 ERA through four starts this season while Shelby Miller will man the mound for the Cardinals and has gone 1-2 with a 3.57 ERA through four starts thus far.

Pirates catcher Russell Martin expects to be back in the lineup after missing the final two games of the team's homestand with lower-body soreness.

"Guarantee I'll be in there [Friday]," Martin said via MLB.com. "I've been trying to play through it, and had to ask myself, 'Is it worth it? Or better to take some time and get better?' Every game is important, but still, we thought it was the right thing to do to heal." 

Martin is hitting .254 with two homers and 11 RBIs in 15 games this season.

Reigning National League Most Valuable Player and Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has reached base in 13 of his last 18 plate appearances and leads the league with 20 walks.

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina comes into play ranking fifth in the majors with a .367 batting average. Molina has three homers and 11 RBIs in 20 games this season.

Two NL Central Division rivals oppose each other when the Pirates and Cardinals meet on the diamond tonight for the first of a three-game set live from Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
