Dwight Howard tried to clarify past comments about his former Orlando Magic teammates after the Lakers game against the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday night. Earlier this week, Howard told KCAL, a Los Angeles CBS affiliate, in an interview: "My team in Orlando was a team full of people who nobody wanted, and I was the leader, and I led that team with a smile on my face."
Following the Lakers' 108-102 victory, Howard attempted to explain exactly what he meant. "My statement was just to say that our team that I played with in Orlando, we were the underdogs," Howard told ESPNLosAngeles.com. "Nobody really talked about our team. It was underrated. Everybody overlooked us for the whole time I was there in Orlando and I hated that."
Howard's earlier comments left many former teammates displeased, including Jameer Nelson and Rashard Lewis, who both were named to the All-Star team while playing alongside Howard. Former Magic guard J.J. Redick wasn't pleased either.
"I'm not surprised by it," Reddick told ESPNLosAngeles.com on Wednesday before his Bucks faced the Clippers. "I would be more surprised when Dwight starts taking responsibility."
The Lakers will travel to Orlando to face the Magic on Tuesday, March 12th.
