Canelo Alvarez vs. Manny Pacquiao: Oscar De La Hoya Has Full Support From Canelo, Wants Pacman Bout [VIDEO]

News that Golden Boy Promotions boss Oscar De La Hoya and Top Rank's Bob Arum have been trying to "bury the hatchet" and work with one another after years of frostiness should be met with universal acclaim from boxing fans and observers. However, the reaction has been somewhat tepid thanks to the unrest it may create within Golden Boy's home base.

Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, a man with an extremely close relationship to Floyd Mayweather Jr., has steadfastly refused to work with Arum ever and that may lead to his ouster. That would likely mean the end of Floyd's relationship with Golden Boy as well.

Oscar has one powerful ally though in Canelo Alvarez, for whom much of this olive branch extending is being done for. De La Hoya and Arum appear interested in a Canelo Alvarez vs. Manny Pacquiao fight, and Alvarez is on board.

"If Oscar thinks it's good and the best thing for my career, then I'm with Oscar 100 percent," Alvarez told The Los Angeles Times. "The only one I'm with is Oscar. The only reason I came to this company is Oscar."

Alvarez's trainer Chepo Reynoso also felt intrigued by the idea of his fighter taking on Pacman. "Of course, that's a very interesting fight. What better fight could you want? We prepare our fighter to fight the best opponent possible, and trust the promoter will find those top opponents." Alvarez is currently slated to fight Erislandy Lara on July 12.

Nothing comes easy in boxing, however, and while De La Hoya has expressed he thinks he and Schaefer can iron out their issues other rumors contend Schaefer and shadowy manager Al Haymon are trying to take Golden Boy away from De La Hoya.

Oscar's having none of that. "I'm here, and Golden Boy Promotions will be bigger and better than ever, regardless of what happens," De La Hoya said. "I believe in myself 100 percent that I can get that [co-promotions with Top Rank] accomplished. I'm the owner of the company. I can get that done.

"We have COOs, CFOs, CEOs, and then the owner. I will be right there, in everything."
