Caroline Wozniacki, Rory McIlroy Not Marrying Yet? McIlroy Refutes August Date [VIDEO]

The sports power couple of golfer Rory McIlroy and tennis player Caroline Wozniacki will get married in August.

Or November. Or some other time.

Caroline Wozniacki hinting at retirement to take care of family

The Irish Independent trumpeted an exclusive in revealing that the athletes will marry in August, citing a source close to the power couple.

"Rory is marrying Caroline in late August," the insider told the Independent. The location reportedly will be New York City.

"They've only been engaged a few months, but they're both keen to make it official and are a planning a spectacular day for guests. They're keeping their invite list under wraps for now for security reasons because it includes some A-list superstars from around the world."

Rory McIlroy says nothing wrong with Caroline Wozniacki's game, despite drop in ranking

Another "source" promptly went on Twitter to refute the Independent's story.

The timing of the wedding would seem odd because it would presumably take place just prior to the U.S. Open tennis championships. Wozniacki currently is ranked 14th in the world.

The Independent, however, reminded its readers about Wozniacki's interview with Lime magazine in April about wanting to start a family fairly soon.

"I want to be a relatively young mother, and I do not see it as being too far in the future," the 23-year-old told the publication. "Therefore I have no dream to make my mark. Instead, I enjoy economic freedom my hard work has given me.

"It means I can give my children the best start in life by being there 100 percent for them."

The Daily Mirror reported in March that the couple would wed in November, which would seem to make more sense in accordance with their respective sports schedules.

The Independent reported that some 200 guests spanning the sports, political and music words are expected to attend. The Mirror cited one of the guests as former President Bill Clinton, who played golf with McIlroy in Ireland.
