Chivas Guadalajara Transfer News: Isaac Brizuela, Carlos Esquivel Transfer Targets For Jorge Vergara?

It's one thing to miss out on a prolific goalscorer like Oribe "El Cepillo" Peralta. It's another to miss out on him and watch him walk to your biggest rival, Club America.

Leon's Luis Montes and Carlos Peña not an option for Chivas Guadalajara?

That's the predicament Chivas Guadalajara are attempting to move past.

Though Liga MX has seen its Clausura tournament end—with Leon once again serving as its champion—preparation for the Apertura tournament has already begun. After all, Mexican football is set to resume on July 18, just five days after the conclusion of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Chivas Guadalajara More Popular Than NFL?

With time ticking away and players seemingly less eager to join the club, Chivas remain optimistic with their targets. The latest reports have a pair of Toluca targets, Isaac Brizuela and Carlos Esquivel, atop their list. Brizuela, who was named to Miguel Herrera's 23-man World Cup roster, made 16 appearances for his club in 2014. Though he recorded just three league goals, the 23-year-old did create 16 chances for Toluca.

He's not as prolific at finishing as Peralta, but according to Herrera, he's the best player in Mexico (h/t to Goal). "Today, it seems as if 'The Rabbit' [Brizuela] is the best player in the league," Herrera said.

"He's doing things very well and is impressive," he added.

"He's made me real happy and satisfied with what he's doing."

There was less prominence from Esquivel in 2014.

In 12 appearances last season, the 32-year-old scored just one goal and created 12 chances. No longer defined as a must-start forward for manager Jose Cardozo, the possibilities of joining a desperate Chivas side becomes more appealing by the day.

A source close to the club even hinted at Esquivel's interest in transferring to Guadalajara (h/t to AM). "They [the club brass] asked him if he would like to dress in the red and white [of Chivas Guadalajara], and he was flattered by the opportunity."
