Real Madrid Transfer News: Chelsea's Ashley Cole Offered 2-Year, £10 Million Contract?

English tabloid the Mirror is reporting that Real Madrid have offered Chelsea's Ashley Cole a two-year, £10 million contract (via Goal). The Spanish giants are said to "desperate" to sign the 33-year-old, who is only being offered a one-year extension to stay in West London.

Diego Costa Out For UEFA Champions League Final?

Obviously, like most transfer gossip, the rumor marrying the two parties can easily be dismissed. After all, Real Madrid already boast powerful options at the left-back position, with two World Cup-bound players seeing minutes for the club this season.

Don't, however, be so quick to dismiss it.

Cristiano Ronaldo Named To La Liga Team of the Year, Messi Snubbed

There's no denying Marcelo remains Madrid first option at left-back. The Brazilian made 34 appearances this season. Injuries and less-prioritized tournaments allowed his teammate Fabio Coentrao to make 13 in the same role.

There's a pecking order in Madrid, but come next season, there's a possibility it won't involve Coentrao.

The 26-year-old, seeking more playing time, has been strongly linked with a transfer to English outfits Manchester United and Tottenham. As early as March, Metro reported Real Madrid were willing to offload his services for a £10 million transfer fee, with United being the most likely suitor.

Just don't tell Coentrao.

The Portuguese defender shows no signs of desiring an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu (h/t to Goal). "I'm not thinking about my future. It's very clear," Coentrao said.

"Regardless of what happens in the [UEFA Champions League] final, I'm happy to be here and to continue to be here, either with the Decima [Real Madrid's 10th European title] or without it," he added.

"I'm very happy and at peace."
