Adonis Stevenson Fight: Champion, Challenger Make Weight, Both Promise Early Finish Via Knockout

WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and challenger Andrzej Fonfara made weight for their title bout Saturday night at Bell Centre in Montreal.

Fonfara stepped on the scale first and checked in at 174½ pounds. The bout became official after Stevenson weighed in at 173½.

Stevenson will be making the third defense of the belt he claimed on June 8, 2013, with a first-round knockout of Chad Dawson. Resident of Laval, Quebec, the 36-year-old Stevenson takes a professional record of 23-1 (20 KOs) into the ring.

Fonfara, who currently calls Chicago home, is 25-2 (15 KOs). In his most recent outing, Dec. 6, 2013, Fonfara secured a title bout by knocking out Samuel Miller in the second round. He has KO'd each of his three most recent opponents.

Each fighter possesses exceptional punching power, and neither expects this fight will go the distance.

"Stevenson has a heavy punch, and I have a heavy punch," Fonfara said after the weigh-ins. "You will see a knockout, for sure, said Fonfara, who is 26."

The champ offered fans some advice: "Don't move. Don't go to get a beer, because [this fight] will end quick."

Stevenson is currently riding a 10-fight win streak. He has registered nine knockouts during that span.

David Lemieux and Fernando Guerrero weighed 159½ and 159, respectively. They meet for the vacant NABF middleweight title.

Jermell Charlo (153¾) and Charlie Ota (153) are set to square off in an IBF junior middleweight eliminator.
