Tim Tebow News: Rex Ryan Rips Former Quarterback's Ability, Praises Eric Decker?

The assault on Tim Tebow has become so bad even his past employers are now openly bashing the out-of-work NFL quarterback.

When asked this week if he felt newly signed receiver Eric Decker's stats might be somewhat inflated based on the fact he played with Peyton Manning in Denver, Jets coach Rex Ryan turned to Tebow as an example from the other extreme.

Tim Tebow keeping NFL hopes alive

"He did catch eight touchdown passes when Tim Tebow was the quarterback," Ryan told ProFootballtalk.com. "Hey, that's pretty impressive. Clearly, he is going to be a go-to guy. We know what we're getting. This is going to be a guy that you can get him the ball in critical situations."

Tebow spent the 2012 season with the Jets, but rarely saw any action, completing just six passes for 39 yards and no touchdowns before being released after the season. The 26-year-old former Florida Heisman Trophy winner's best NFL season came the year before with Manning's now Broncos when he threw for 1,729 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Tim Tebow still inspiring others

Even now, in the face of all Ryan's and other criticisms, Tebow remains undaunted, recently telling reporters he feels as if he is as good as he's "ever been" and is looking for another NFL opportunity.

Tebow recently inked a deal with ESPN to become the new face of its SEC Network, but the deal is rumored to have an escape clause for the former NFL vet if another team calls for his services.
