Jon Jones Next Fight: Cain Velasquez Says 'Bones' Shouldn't Worry About Heavyweight Jump, Predicts Daniel Cormier Will Beat Champ [VIDEO]

Jon Jones, the UFC light heavyweight champion and consensus top pound-for-pound fighter in mixed martial arts, has discussed a potential move up to heavyweight in the relatively near future before. The champion there, Cain Velasquez, is advising "Bones" to focus on his own domain though.

Daniel Cormier would face Gustafsson for interim title if Jones stalls

Jones is expected to take on Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 177 in August, although Jones hasn't signed the deal to make that official yet. Velasquez doesn't think he's done cleaning out the light heavyweight class though even if he topples Gustafsson for a second time--Daniel Cormier is still there.

"DC" is a friend of Velasquez, and moved into the light heavyweight division so that the two would never have to fight. Velasquez believes eventually Cormier will take Jones' title when the opportunity comes. "He's ready for this," Velasquez said.

DC hopes Jones keeps title vs. Gus

"It's his time. Jon Jones has that long reach, which is going to make things difficult. He throws those kicks and a lot of punches. His elbows are tough as well, but I think Cormier just has what it takes to win."

Aside from a possible Cormier fight down the road, the heavyweight champion thinks the 205-lb. division is full of conquests for Jones, and he shouldn't be concerned with traveling up. "He has a lot of work to do in his division right now," Velasquez told MMAjunkie. "He had Glover (Teixeira), and now he has 'DC' and then he has (Alexander) Gustafsson also. I just think that's in the present moment right now because he has a lot of opponents coming up."

The first is Gustafsson, and UFC president Dana White is not happy that Jones' signature isn't on the contract. "I don't like it, I don't like it at all," White said. When asked what the reason was for the hold up, White curtly replied "Ask Jon Jones."
