Oscar Pistorius Murder Trial: Doctors Know Whether He Has Anxiety Disorder [VIDEO]

As Oscar Pistorius finishes his second week a month-long psychological evaluation, doctors already know whether Pistorius has general anxiety disorder.

Will Oscar Pistorius go free on a technicality?

So says Dr. Charles Sophy, a psychiatrist who works for CNN's Headline News, adding that doctors examining Pistorius, have had enough time to conduct tests to determine Pistorius' mental state.

"Most of the traits that exhibit themselves for a generalized anxiety disorder will come out in things that not only will be tested for in psychological testing, such as concentration, pulse control, mood, those kinds of things," he said to HLNTV.

"They're also going to be looking at things like his sleep. And is it good sleep, is it continuous sleep, does he have an issue with his sleep? His eating, his energy level."

"The kinds of things that go through his head-is he able to be productive, or s the anxiety to a level that it almost paralyzes him through the day. There's definitely clear criteria," he added.

The murder trial of the 27-year-old Pistorius, the South African Paralympics and Olympics sprinter known as "the Blade Runner," was interrupted after a psychiatrist for the defense diagnosed Pistorius with generalized anxiety disorder.

At the request of the prosecution, Judge Thokozile Masipa ordered the evaluation for Pistorius.

The athlete claims he shot and killed his 29-year-old girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp by mistake through a bathroom door in the early morning of Feb. 14, 2013. He thought she was an intruder. Prosecutors are calling the shooting murder that followed an argument between the couple.

During the trial, Pistorius' lawyers called a psychiatrist to testify that Pistorius developed an anxiety disorder from childhood that could have been a factor in him killing Steenkamp.

The prosecution, arguing that the defense was trying to change its defense, asked for the 30-day evaluation.

Pistorius is an outpatient at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa, meaning he is free to go home at the end of each day. It was unclear how his sleep patterns are being monitored.

No medical announcements about Pistorius mental health will be made until the end of the evaluation period.
