U.S. Open 2014 Golf Odds: Rory McIlroy Betting Favorite; Brendon Todd, Harris English Potential Sleepers? [VIDEO]

The U.S. Open starts up this week and, aside from Tiger Woods, the field has never been more packed and unpredictable. With a tournament like the U.S. Open, par might be enough for the winner to take home the trophy and in such a tournament both odds on favorites and dark horses are in play here.

Betting Odds:
Mcilroy, Rory 10/1
Scott, Adam 14/1
Mickelson, Phil 16/1
Watson, Bubba 18/1
Spieth, Jordan 25/1
Stenson, Henrik 28/1
Rose, Justin 28/1
Kuchar, Matt 28/1
Day, Jason 33/1
Johnson, Dustin 33/1
Garcia, Sergio 33/1
Westwood, Lee 35/1
Kaymer, Martin 35/1
Donald, Luke 40/1
Matsuyama, Hideki 40/1
Furyk, Jim 45/1
Simpson, Webb 45/1
Walker, Jimmy 50/1
Schwartzel, Charl 50/1
Dufner, Jason 50/1
Fowler, Rickie 66/1
Mcdowell, Graeme 55/1

Of course the likes of Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson will be the players that everyone is watching as they look to establish their presence in this season. Mickelson is looking to complete the career Grand Slam and has finished second at the U.S. Open on six previous occasions.

Aside from the odds on favorites at the U.S. Open, some dark horse candidates could make a name for themselves at a tournament like this. Brendon Todd (100 to 1) could ride his hot streak into the open and make a move for the top spot. Other sleepers who could contend at a U.S. Open type major include Harris English (90 to 1), Chris Kirk (125 to 1) and Patrick Reed (125 to 1).

If the PGA wants to contend as a major sporting event this is the perfect opportunity to establish themselves without their star athlete. Golf has fallen on tough times in light of Tiger Woods' lengthy stint on the shelf, but with such an even field, golf has a chance to have a look at post-Tiger life.
