World Cup 2014 News: Jurgen Klinsmann Says USA 'Not Realistic' World Cup Contenders [VIDEO]

U.S. Men’s National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann made waves with the national media and fans when he declared the the USMNT couldn't win the World cup this year. Klinsmann took to the podium again and reiterated his previous statement about the USMNT’s chances at bringing home a championship.

"You have to be realistic. Every year we are getting stronger," said Klinsmann. "We don't look at ourselves as underdogs. We are not. We are going to take the game to Ghana and they will take it to us and it will be an exciting game and then we go from there.

"For us now talking about winning a World Cup, it is just not realistic. If it is American or not, you can correct me,"

Klinsmann is taking an honest approach to an unpopular opinion as no American wants to hear that they can’t win a sporting event. The former Germany coach kept morale up amongst his team despite his less than flattering words and expects each and every game to be a new challenge. Klinsmann went out his way to scout Ghana, the USMNT’s first opponent, and spoke very highly of them and the opportunity.

"It's a team full of individual talent, with players that can hurt you in a split second if you're not awake," he said. "That's good that way. I think for us it's a great opportunity to start the tournament with. Obviously we have been training for a month, so we are really focused.”

The United States will play Ghana in their first match of the 2014 World Cup Monday at 6:00 PM. Stay with Sports World News for all your 2014 World Cup coverage.
