Landon Donovan, Jurgen Klinsmann Feud: United States Can Win World Cup, Must Get By Germany? [VIDEO]

Landon Donovan has had some time to reflect in the weeks since he was left off the USMNT roster and in his time he has been busy. Donovan broke the MLS goals record, joined ESPN’s coverage of the World Cup and declared that the United States can not only win the World Cup, but they believe they will.

Donovan sat down for his first appearance as an ESPN analyst and was not given any time to breathe as all the questions surrounding him were out of the way quickly. Donovan reflected about his time since being left off the World Cup roster and also commented on Jurgen Kilnsmann’s comments concerning the United States’ chances of winning the World Cup.

"This will come as a surprise to nobody, but I don't agree with Jurgen," Donovan said. "And as someone who has been in that [USMNT] locker room and has sat next to the players, we agree with the American Outlaws: We believe that we will win. I think that's the way Americans think and I think that's the sentiment.”

"If we're really expecting to go out and beat Ghana, beat Portugal and beat Germany -- in my opinion Germany is one of the best teams in the world. If you can beat Germany, why can't you beat anybody else?

"It doesn't mean it's going to happen, but I believe [the US can win the World Cup] and I think all of America believes it. We can do it."

Donovan has very sound logic to his points that Americans like to believe that they stand a chance in every sporting event. If the United States could beat the odds and top the German team it would be a victory that would rival the Miracle on Ice in scale. Donovan has a future in the booth that will rival Alexi Lalas and this is a very solid start to his future profession.
