The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to be the ninth team to host the HBO series Hard Knocks despite being a team that could turn down the show.

The show is set to air on Tuesday, Aug. 5 as the cameras will follow the Falcons on the road to redemption after a miserable 2013 campaign in which the team went 4-12. Falcons Owner & Chairman Arthur M. Blank spoke about the opportunity to have fans get a look inside the Atlanta Falcons.

“We are excited about the opportunity to give our fans a behind the scenes look at what it takes to prepare an NFL team for the rigors of a 16-game regular season and beyond,” said Blank. “This marks the first time that our franchise will be featured on HARD KNOCKS and we look forward to showcasing our great players and coaches to football fans all across America.”

President of HBO Sports, Ken Hershman also spoke about the honor to film a team such as the Falcons as they attempt to get back on the winning path and back to the playoffs.

“We are thrilled that the ninth edition of the HARD KNOCKS series will spotlight the Atlanta Falcons,” said Hershman. “It’s exciting to feature a team, a franchise and a city for the first time on HARD KNOCKS. We are grateful to Head Coach Mike Smith and the entire organization for agreeing to participate and look forward to what we expect to be one of the few summertime programs that is truly appointment TV and we can’t wait for the premiere on August 5th.”

The Falcons volunteered to be the team that participates in the show and avoided a possibly awkward situation for the NFL. The NFL had the option to force a team to do the show if no team volunteered and they fell within the set criteria. Last years edition of the hit series featured the Cincinnati Bengals and averaged 3.6 million viewers per episode.

Hard Knocks premieres Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 10 p.m. ET exclusively on HBO.
