Tonight at 10:10 p.m. ET, the Texas Rangers (33-34) and Seattle Mariners (34-33) clash for the second contest of a three-game set live from Safeco Field in Seattle. Texas looks for its second straight win and plays the second game of its nine-game road trip while Seattle looks to nod the series and snap a four-game losing streak in the fifth contest of its eight-game homestand. The Rangers beat the Mariners 1-0 on Friday.
Joe Saunders (0-2, 3.60 ERA) toes the rubber for Texas while Seattle counters with Erasmo Ramirez, who is 1-4 with a 5.97 ERA.
The Mariners hope Ramirez, 24, will bring his walks down after his last start.
"He threw better. His velocity was up. There's still concern about the control. He walked five in 4 2/3. That's not good," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said via MLB.com. "[There was] progress in the sense that we won the game. But there's room for improvement."
Saunders hopes that Safeco Field will provide another great backdrop for him as he is 6-0 with a 2.13 ERA at that stadium in his career.
"I love this park," Saunders told MLB.com. "It's a great place ... great atmosphere, great weather. I love the cold weather."
Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano is tied for the lead in the American League with a .328 average and has three homers and 35 RBIs in his first season in Seattle thus far.
Rangers outfielder Alex Rios is tied with Cano atop the AL ranks with a .328 average and also ranks first in triples (8) and third in hits (85). Rios has three homers and 32 RBIs.
Fellow Texas outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is third in the AL with a .398 on-base percentage and he played Friday after dealing with an ankle injury. Choo is hitting .262 this season with six homers and 23 RBIs.
