Former Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Vince Young believes it is time to look into life after the NFL as he has announced his retirement. Young will call it a career from professional football and will look into a possible position at the University of Texas.
Young spoke about his decision with told Brent Carney of KXAN-TV in Austin, Texas and said he believes the time is right.
"It's definitely official I think in my book," Young said Saturday. "Unless we get a great opportunity, something guaranteed ... other than that I've started moving forward in some things.”
Young was the No. 3 overall selection in the 2006 NFL draft by the Tennessee Titans and was Offensive Rookie of the Year. Young never really improved on that year as he struggled the next four years and even butted heads with head coach Jeff Fisher. Young spoke about his quarrel with Fisher and sounded as if he regrets his actions in Tennessee.
"I had my ups and downs," Young said. "I made the mistake of getting in to it with my coach and that kind of hurt me a whole lot. When you go to different teams, they already have a bad perception of you. When that's out there, there's nothing you can do.”
Young is rumored to be interested in some kind of football role at the University of Texas, but with Mack Brown no longer coach of the Longhorns, it is unclear if Charlie Strong will want Young’s services. Young believes he will be an ambassador of the school and was mum on the details of any potential position at his alma mater.
