San Francisco 49ers Rumors: Vernon Davis Plans to Attend Camp, Writes Essay About Contract Situation [VIDEO]

San Francisco 49ers tight end, Vernon Davis plans to attend mandatory camp, but not many people know why the Pro Bowler is unhappy. Davis set the record straight as he sat down to be the guest writer of the Monday Morning Quarterback on MMQB.com.

Davis covered a variety of topics for the website, but before diving into some of the major offseason stories he set the record straight for his own situation.

“In 2010 I signed a five-year, $37 million contract extension with $23 million guaranteed. It was the biggest contract for a tight end in league history. Four years later, and I’m playing at a higher level than I was then, which brings me to why I’m holding out. It’s all about getting paid what you deserve.”

Davis continued and spoke about life after football and he doesn't want to be finically unstable when that day comes.

“I can’t listen to anyone but my family and my advisors, because those are the people who are going to be there when football inevitably dumps me.”

Davis has spent his entire eight year career with the 49ers after being drafted No. 6 overall by them in the 2006 NFL draft. Davis’ plans to attend 49er camp, but he raises a solid argument as to why he deserves a raise. Davis has been an advocate for tight ends to receive more money if they are a more active part of the offense, as Davis is. Davis has come out and supported Jimmy Graham as he fights with the NFLPA and the Saints to be paid as a wide receiver and not a tight end if he is to remained franchised tagged.

It is unknown if the 49ers plan to renegotiate with Davis, but it would be a huge mistake on San Francisco’s part if they cannot find a way to get their dynamic tight end happy.
