Who's the best soccer player in the world? For Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, a huge soccer fan, it has got to be Real Madrid star and Portugal team captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
Speaking to Hip Hop Crazy TV, the Lakers star was asked on who is the better player between soccer's two most dominant stars--Ronaldo and FC Barcelona star and Argentinian Lionel Messi. Without batting an eyelash, Bryant said Ronaldo is today's best player.
He explained: "I think for the last five years, Messi has been the best player in the world. I think this year, Ronaldo has really taken his game to another level to a point where you can consider him the best in the world at the moment." "But you always know Messi is lurking in the corner, you know he can explode any given time."
Ronaldo and Messi are facing pressure to win the World Cup especially after disastrous showings in the previous tournament. The 29-year old Ronaldo is likely participating in his last World Cup while the sting of a shutout in five matches for Argentina still haunts Messi up to this day.
Even Bryant believes that both Messi and Ronaldo can't be considered all-time greats until they win the World Cup. As he said during the interview: "Yeah, I mean, that's kind of the old adage. That's the same thing we face back home, in the NBA. We can't be considered an all-time great until you win the NBA championship."
