The WWE and Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon released 11 Superstars and head writer Jay Gibson last week, and the reason for some of the firings have reached the surface.
Snooki Looking To Return To The WWE
The WWE released JTG, Drew McIntyre, Jinder Mahal, Aksana, Curt Hawkins, Theodore Long, Camacho, Brodus Clay, Evan Bourne, Yoshi Tatsu and referee Mark Harris last Thursday before McMahon let Gibson go the following day amidst a series of budget cuts the company is expected to make.
McMahon recently lost a lot of money due to subpar WWE Network subscriptions, the WWE's stock taking a hit and the company inking a television deal that was less than what was previously expected. McMahon is likely to make more budget cuts and NXT may soon take a few hits as a result.
Brodus Clay Discusses His Character After Being Released
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, while the firings of the 11 Superstars was for budgetary reasons, that wasn't the case with Gibson, the head Monday Night RAW writer. The report indicates that despite the fact that the WWE fired Gibson, it isn't seen as that significant and there will not be a major change of direction in television.
Gibson was with the WWE for about five months and organized writers to work on different angles and with different Superstars as opposed to actually writing himself, so it likely won't make that big of an impact on the WWE's future storylines.
Apparently Gibson not having much knowledge of the company led to his demise as when he was asked his opinions on things it was revealed that he didn't know much about the product.
WWE Diva Aksana was released because despite being a former favorite of WWE producer Kevin Dunn, she had fallen out of favor and didn't have much support backstage.
With more Divas coming up to the main roster soon from WWE NXT -- including WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair's daughter Charlotte -- Aksana became expendable.
Rosa Mendes was reportedly on the chopping block, but she was saved when producers of Total Divas wanted her to be on the E! Network reality show.
The releases have led to some paranoia backstage among lower-tier talents that their jobs may not be safe and it is said to be a tumultuous time backstage in the WWE.
More releases could be coming as McMahon and the WWE continue to trim down their budget and make up for recent losses.
