Chad Johnson certainly has a way with words.

The longtime NFL wide receiver made his debut in a Canadian Football League exhibition game on Friday night, catching a first-quarter pass from former NFL quarterback Troy Smith during the Montreal Alouettes' 26-10 loss to the Ottawa RedBlacks.

ProFootballTalk.NBCSports.com reported that Johnson said his emotions before the game were similar to another special occasion for him.

"It's similar to the feeling before I lost my virginity. There's a certain level of excitement ... anticipation ... not knowing what's going to happen or what I'm going to get," Johnson told the Montreal Gazette.

After the game, he was more serious in analyzing his performance.

"It felt good. Nervous, butterflies. It was cool," Johnson said, according to ESPN. "A little sloppy, I have a lot of work to do, but it felt good. It felt good to be on the field again. It was fun."

The 36-year-old Johnson spent 11 years in the NFL, catching 766 passes for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns with the Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots. He said playing on a CFL field, which is 30 yards longer and almost 12 yards wide was not a big adjustment.

"Even though the field is wider, the dimensions are a little different, it didn't seem much different at all," Johnson said.

Asked whether he was having fun playing again, Johnson said, according to ESPN, "Yes, somewhat. I'm not there yet. You'll know when I'm having fun; you'll be able to tell."

Johnson was playing for the first time since appearing in a preseason game for the Miami Dolphins on Aug. 10, 2012. The next day, he was arrested on a domestic violence charge, ProFootballTalk.NBCSports.com reported, and the Dolphins cut him.

The Alouettes' season begins Thursday against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
