Today at 3:35 p.m. ET, the Minnesota Twins (36-40) and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (43-33) take the field at Angel Stadium for the finale of a three-game set live from Anaheim. Minnesota hopes to avoid a sweep as it continues the opening series of a six-game road trip while Los Angeles looks for its sixth straight win and to close out its homestand with a 6-0 record. The Angels defeated the Twins 8-6 on Tuesday and then 6-2 on Wednesday to extend their winning streak to five games.
Los Angeles enters play in second place in the American League West and sits four games behind the first place Oakland Athletics while Minnesota is in fourth place in the AL Central, seven games behind the division-leading Detroit Tigers. The Twins have lost seven straight road games.
Ricky Nolasco (4-5, 5.52 ERA) toes the rubber for the Twins while the Angeles counter with Jered Weaver, who is 7-6 with a 3.47 ERA.
Weaver is 8-2 with a 3.35 ERA against the Twins in his career, but he said he'll approach this start like any other.
"You go about every start the same way, regardless of who you're facing," Weaver told MLB.com. "I'm just focused on trying to keep our team in the game and hopefully pull out a victory."
Nolasco will hope to erase what he deemed as a rough start against the Chicago White Sox last Friday where he gave up two solo homers but settled down and lasted 5.1 innings.
"I thought I was pretty terrible," Nolasco said per MLB.com. "No fastball command. Thought I kind of got lucky to just give up two runs to that lineup tonight with the kind of stuff I had."
Twins second baseman Brian Dozier leads the AL with 59 runs and ranks third in the league with 49 walks. Dozier leads Minnesota with 15 homers and 38 RBI (tied).
Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick comes into the game riding a nine-game hitting streak. Los Angeles outfielder Mike Trout ranks first in the AL in OPS (1.001), second in on-base percentage (.401) third in slugging percentage (.601) and fourth in total bases (164). Trout is hitting .318 and leads the Angels with 17 homers and 56 RBI.
