Canelo Alvarez Next Fight: Erislandy Lara Picked By Austin Trout To Win On July 12 [VIDEO]

Canelo Alvarez is set to face Erislandy Lara on July 12, and both fighters have defeated Austin "No Doubt" Trout in the past, with varying degrees of ease. Lara had the easier time with the crafty southpaw, and while Canelo was the first to send Trout to the canvas, his victory was harder to come by. Now, Trout's offering his thoughts on the matchup between Alvarez and Lara.

Tim Bradley next for Miguel Cotto, not Canelo?

"Lara is the better boxer," Trout told BoxingScene.com. "Canelo may be strong but I don't think he'll be able to land on Lara. I've got Lara by unanimous decision."

Lara is known for his slick defense and counterpunching, but he also has some pop in his gloves. Canelo may have been the first to floor the sturdy Trout, but Lara was also able to score a knockdown against him. "Lara's got hell of a footwork, he's got a quick left hand and that left hand is going to find a home early."

Lara being overlooked in July 12 fight?

Lara is yet another Cuban with supreme skills honed by a standout amateur career, and he has boasted about his dominance of Trout in an effort to intimidate Canelo. "The Cuban school won the fight," Lara said after beating Trout. "I put on a clinic using the Cuban method of boxing. I want to tell Canelo Alvarez that I beat Austin Trout better and I want to face him in the near future."

Trout's not the only common opponent the two share, however. Alfredo Angulo hasn't offered any opinion, but in Canelo's first fight after getting schooled by Floyd Mayweather Jr., he bludgeoned Angulo and scored a TKO victory in Round 10. When Lara fought Angulo, he was knocked down twice but won because he fractured a bone in Angulo's eye.

Lara doesn't put much stock in Canelo's beatdown of "El Perro" though, stating he wasn't the same when he fought Canelo. "He [Angulo] lost a lot in our last fight. He took a ton of punishment, and I think it showed when he fought Canelo," Lara said. "That wasn't the same Angulo as the Angulo I fought."
