Tonight at 7:05 p.m. ET, the Chicago Cubs (36-46) and Boston Red Sox (38-46) play the final game of a three-game series live from Fenway Park in Boston. The game can be live streamed for free here. Chicago fans can hear all of the action on WGN 720 while Boston fans can do the same on WEEI 93.7.
Chicago looks to complete a sweep to close out the first series in an 11-game road trip while Boston finishes out the first set in a 10-game homestand and looks to salvage the final game of the series. The Cubs blanked the Red Sox 2-0 on Monday then defeated them 2-1 on Tuesday.
Chicago enters play in last place in the National League Central, 13 games behind the first place Milwaukee Brewers while Boston is fourth place in the American League East, eight games behind the division-leading Toronto Blue Jays.
Travis Wood (7-6, 4.52 ERA) takes the hill for the Cubs while the Red Sox counter with Brandon Workman, who is 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA.
Workman went seven innings and allowed four runs on seven hits against the New York Yankees on Friday in his last time out.
"Little bit of a grind the whole time," Workman said after the game, according to MLB.com. "I was constantly pitching with guys on, stuff like that, but I was able to pitch out of some situations. But they tagged me for a couple homers. That hurt."
Wood is coming off of a start where he walked a season-high-tying five batters while giving up three runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings in a 5-3 victory over the Washington Nationals.
"Walks, in general, for me are disappointing," Wood told MLB.com after the outing. "To walk a couple and miss with a pitch and allow them to get back in the ballgame, it can't happen."
The Red Sox have won 10 of their last 14 games at Fenway Park and will look to become the first AL team since 1967 to limit their opponents to three runs or less in 15 consecutive home games.
Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is hitting .279 and ranks third in the NL with 17 homers, second in the NL with 49 walks and has 44 RBI. Chicago shortstop Starlin Castro is third in the NL with 25 doubles and is hitting a team-best .286 with 11 long balls and a team-leading 47 RBI.
Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli has a .273 batting average this season with 10 homers and 31 RBI and he ranks third in the AL with a .391 on-base percentage. Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia leads the team in batting average (.277) while designated hitter David Ortiz paces it in homers (19) and RBI (52).
The Cubs look for the sweep while the Red Sox hope to salvage a game when these teams close out their interleague series tonight at Fenway Park in Boston.
