Chris Jericho Return To WWE: Backstage Details Behind 'Y2J's' Comeback And How It Came About

Chris Jericho returned to the WWE on Monday Night RAW and interrupted the comeback of The Miz and more details have come in over how "Y2J's" comeback came to fruition.

Jericho revealed on his Talk is Jericho podcast that his whole return was agreed upon with Triple H last Friday in about five minutes.

Jericho said on the show that his band Fozzy is his main priority but he had spare time and was in talks with the WWE to return for many months.

The WWE Superstar turned rock star was in talks to return for WrestleMania XXX last April but he revealed that he didn't come back because there were no good creative ideas for him to warrant a return to the squared circle. Jericho was hoping to work with Daniel Bryan in New Orleans, but Bryan ended up beating Triple H and then Randy Orton and Batista for the WWE Championship instead.

Jericho also said that he wanted to work with Bray Wyatt, but he was busy in a program with John Cena at the time. Jericho interrupted The Miz during RAW and delivered a Codebreaker and when he went back to cut a promo The Wyatt Family interrupted his promo and surrounded the ring, sparking a program between Jericho and Wyatt that will likely culminate in a singles match at SummerSlam on Aug. 17 in L.A.

Jericho revealed he received a call from a WWE writer a month ago but was planning to work a tour with Fozzy this summer and once they didn't get on it he had free time to return. Jericho was told he'd work with Wyatt as he had wanted to months ago. Jericho gave the company dates he could work and didn't hear back for three weeks until he got a phone call three days prior to RAW.

"Y2J" explained on his podcast that he wanted to keep his return under wraps and in order to do that he flew to Boston on Monday then drove to Hartford and arrived around 5:30. He waited for fans outside of the site of RAW to get into the building before he arrived for the show.

Jericho said he sat in a production bus for over four hours and met with WWE agent Dean Malenko to go over some ideas for the angle. Malenko then took some of the ideas back to Vince McMahon for approval. Jericho then met with The Miz and Wyatt Family to go over some things before returning live on television.

Jericho mentioned that Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H loved how the segment came off with him, The Miz and The Wyatt Family and said that "lots of cool stuff" is coming this summer. Jericho is expected to stay with the company through Night of Champions in September.

Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that Jericho will be touring with Fozzy during his WWE run as just a few days after the July 20 Battleground pay-per-view, the band will kick off its "Do You Wanna Start a War" tour at The Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood on July 24.

Jericho and the WWE pulled off something that's hard to do these days by shocking the WWE universe with a surprising return to action.
