An opening goal from Thomas Muller increased the tension inside of the Estadio Mineirao. Miroslav Klose’s record-breaking finish broke the hearts of all residing inside it just 12 minutes later. An onslaught of German supremacy would immediately follow. Goals from Toni Kroos and Sami Khedira would gift the European power a 5-0 lead within the span of five minutes. Just for good measure, Andre Schurrle added a brace of his own in the second half.

And thus, Brazil’s World Cup dreams are finally over.


Key Moment: Brazil had enough fight after conceding Muller’s opener, but the demoralizing rebound Klose polished off turned the match on its head. It took a nightmarish turn for the host nation from there.
Man of the Match: The German midfield proved to be too much for Brazil. The stalwart player driving it was Toni Kroos. The 24-year-old finished the match completing 93 percent of his passes, two goals and one assist.
Lesson Learned: Brazil were unable to overcome the absence of their most important player, and no, we’re not speaking of Neymar. Due to yellow card accumulation, center-back Thiago Silva was forced to miss Tuesday’s semifinal. His dominant defensive presence kept the opposition at bay. HIs positioning protected a meandering David Luiz. Without him, Brazil was undressed in front of the home crowd.

Up Next: Germany travels to Rio de Janeiro to participate in the World Cup final on July 13, while Brazil looks to recover from another World Cup disaster on home soil.
