Adrien Broner Next Fight: 'The Problem' Will Headline September 6 Card With Lucas Matthysse As Co-Feature [VIDEO]

Adrien "The Problem" Broner bounced back from a brutal loss to Marcos Maidana in December 2013 with an easy victory over Carlos Molina at 140 lbs., where he looks like he will be campaigning for a while. Broner's return to the ring is set for September 6, and even though his opponent has yet to be announced, Broner's back in a headlining role.

"Broner would be the main event with [Lucas] Matthysse as a co-feature. I can confirm that," Golden Boy Promotions vice president Eric Gomez told ESPN.com. "We don't have a confirmation on a third fight yet. I gave [Showtime's Stephen Espinoza] a few ideas. He's supposed to let me know. He's willing to do a tripleheader, but the third fight is up in the air."

Broner apology accepted, WBC re-instates him

Broner's viability as a main eventer was thought to take a hit following his beatdown at the hands of Maidana, followed by his controversial post-fight comments as an undercard attraction in May underneath Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s fight against Maidana. Broner went on a rant in which he called himself the "Can Man," saying anyone can get it. He continued, "Afri-cans, I just beat the f**k out of a Mexi-can," which earned him a suspension from the WBC that was lifted recently.

While a Broner vs. Matthysse fight would likely be a major event for Showtime, that fight isn't ready to be made. "No, they are not fighting each other [on Sept. 6]," Gomez said. "I would love for them to fight each other, but right now it's just two guys who need to fight. These are two exciting fighters and two of the top guys in the division fighting on the same card."

John Molina guarantees Matthysse rematch would be "a classic"

For now, John Molina, who was engaged in a firefight with Matthysse in April that is a Fight of the Year candidate, is angling for either a rematch with Matthysse or a bout with Broner.

"I believe the fight can happen in due time. The 'Can Man' set himself up because he calls himself the 'Can Man.' He's not the 'Can Man' he's more the 'Tin Man.' You build yourself up to be a certain person that you're not and you shouldn't do that," Molina said of Broner last week.
