Los Angeles Lakers Coach Rumors: Byron Scott Reportedly Offered Head Coaching Job In L.A. [VIDEO]

The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly offered their vacant head coaching job to Byron Scott after the former Los Angeles star completed three interviews.

Jeremy Lin Introduced As A Laker

According to ESPN, Scott and the Lakers are currently in negotiations on the framework of a deal to bring him into the fold as Mike D'Antoni's successor.

D'Antoni resigned as head coach of the Lakers in April and took a $2 million buyout after it was revealed L.A. was leaning toward bringing him back but wouldn't pick up his option for 2015-16 automatically.

Cavs Remain Favorite For Kevin Love

The Lakers made Scott a verbal offer on Thursday after he spoke with team owner Jim Buss and Scott's side is now in the process of reviewing the offer from L.A.

Kobe Bryant, who said he wanted a say in who the Lakers hired and played beside Scott when he was a rookie in 1996, gave the team his full endorsement of the hire. Bryant re-signed with the franchise on a two-year deal and is hoping to win a sixth NBA title before it runs out.

Scott interviewed three times as the Lakers put the head coaching search on the backburner in order to concentrate on the NBA Draft and free agency. With the draft gone and most free agents finding homes, the third time was the charm for Scott to get the job as general manager Mitch Kupchak completed his methodical search for a new coach.

Scott won three NBA titles with the Lakers as a player and has been the front-runner to land the coaching gig all summer.

Scott inherits a team that is far from championship glory after the 2013-14 campaign. An injury-riddled Los Angeles team finished a franchise-worst 27-55 last season and failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2005.
