NASCAR Won't Change Schedule Despite Drivers' Demands [VIDEO]

There won't be drastic changes to NASCAR schedule next year, much to the disappointment of drivers wanting big changes.

On Friday, NASCAR announced there won't be any changes to the schedule next year, which is contrary to what many of its drivers want.

Count on six-time titlist Jimmie Johnson who wanted some changes in the schedule, particularly a week off before the last 10 races in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. Johnson reiterated his stance on Friday as quoted by AP"I buy into the philosophy that we have a bit of oversaturation with race distances and how often we compete. I think we could trim that stuff down. I don't know where I would go to first, but I think adopting a little bit of 'less is more' would be beneficial."

Meanwhile, 2013 Brickyard 400 winner Ryan Newman believes that NASCAR should have races on Wednesday night so that it won't have to compete for audience with the NFL. He reasoned out: "We can still run 36 or 38 races, but we don't need to be at the racetrack, especially for Daytona and Talladega for three, sometimes four days with the inspection process."

According to NASCAR chairman Brian France, the schedule for next year will be known by September. He had earlier speculated that there would be discussion about the racing schedule next year, but he suddenly had a change of heart earlier this week. As quoted by AP during his interview on SiriusXM: "There's not going to be a dramatic change, but there may be some things that are a little different - that's not unusual."
