Carl Edwards Leaves Roush Fenway Racing [VIDEO]

Carl Edwards will leave Roush-Fenway Racing after the end of the NASCAR season, ending 11 years of partnership.

ESPN is reporting that Roush officials confirmed the rumors that Edwards is out after the season. There are talks he will join Joe Gibbs Racing but his current contract with Roush prohibits him from announcing his plans.
With the departure of Edwards, it will also mean that his long association with Ford will also come to a close. Four years ago, Ford stepped in contract negotiations by offering incentives with the hope of keeping Edwards. He did stay with Roush but he lost the 2011 championship to Tony Stewart.

The next year was particularly tough for Edwards as he went winless on the first year of his three-year contract extension. And while he has performed much better this season, Edwards was ranked sixth heading into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway race on Sunday at sixth place.

In a statement, Jack Roush said of Edwards' impending departure: "I will always be thankful for Carl's contribution and the role he played in many Roush Fenway wins and championships. We wish him well for the future. In the meantime, we are excited about continuing our quest for a championship with Carl and the No. 99 team in 2014.''

Edwards has been driving for Roush since 2003 and has been behind the wheel of No.99 Ford since 2004. With him out of the line-up, Roush said that Greg Biffle and Rickey Stenhouse Jr. will be both making a comeback.
