Troy Tulowitzki Trade Rumors: Tulo Attends Yankee Game, Could Be Derek Jeter's Heir at Shortstop? [VIDEO]

The New York Yankees will find thmelseves with a huge hole at shortstop after Derek Jeter retires at season’s end, but the next Yankee shortstop could have been in attendance on Sunday.

The trade rumors are stirring after Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki took in a Yankee game as a fan on Sunday after seeing his doctor in Philadelphia. Tulowitzki spoke about the appearance and said it was solely to see his idol Derek Jeter play one more time.

"It's a short drive from Philly," Tulowitzki said. "I wanted to see Jeter play one more time.”

It’s no secret that Tulowitzki wants out of Colorado and he has plenty of reasons to feel that way about the organization. The Rockies have had a 2014 to forget, and all the memorable parts of the season have been for the wrong reasons. The latest folly by the Rockies was the fact that they gave away 15,000 Tulowitzki shirt jerseys with his name spelled incorrectly on all of them.

This could end up being a dream scenario for both Tulowitzki and the Yankees as the Rockies' star has expressed interest in replacing Jeter in the past.

"I think everybody knows that," said Tulowitzki, who wears No. 2 because of Jeter, "everybody wants that perfect story.”

The issue with any Tulowitzki trade is finding a team that will take on his $118 million contract. The Yankees are a team that isn't afraid to take on a big contract on the condition that the player will pay dividends toward a World Series championship.

As great as Tulowitzki would be for the Yankees, he better be careful for what he wishes for as the New York media can be ruthless. ESPN’s Ian O’Connor took the opportunity to compare Tulowitzki to one of the Yankees most infamous names.

“This was another shortstop paying his respects — but getting the lay of the land at the same time. This was a big-time athlete causing an unnecessary, big-time stir.

This was Troy Tulowitzki, Derek Jeter fan, ripping a page out of the Alex Rodriguez playbook.”
