David Price Trade Rumors: Brewers Sleeper Candidate To Acquire Rays Ace, Unless Tampa Bay Keeps Winning

Tampa Bay Rays ace David Price figured to be one of the hottest commodities on the trade market as MLB's trade deadline inches closer, with the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals looming as the flashiest names. However, a sleeper candidate may be emerging for the left-hander's services-the Milwaukee Brewers.

Are the Cardinals considering trading Oscar Taveras for Price?

The Brewers have done it before-in 2008 they sent four players, including 2014 All-Star Michael Brantley, for CC Sabathia. The hefty lefty went 11-2 with a 1.65 ERA for the Brewers and spent much of his time there starting on three days rest to push them into the postseason.

This year, David Price is 11-7 with a 3.08 ERA and the highest strikeout-to-walk ratio of his career by a mile (8.07). The Brewers currently lead the National League Central by 1.5 games over the St. Louis Cardinals, but their rotation could use a true ace.

The Cardinals and Dodgers are also said to be interested Price, with St. Louis reportedly considering trading outfield prospect Oscar Taveras for him. The biggest roadblock now for a Price trade, however, may be Tampa Bay's sudden streak of success.

Could the Yankees acquire AL East rival Price?

The Rays have reeled off nine wins in their last 10 games and find themselves just seven games behind the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East. They are also 4.5 games out of the second wildcard spot, but must leapfrog five other teams.

Price is scheduled to face the Brewers on Wednesday in a matinee to close out their three-game series, which began with a 2-1 victory last night.
