Detroit Lions Insult Ndamukong Suh by Letting Him Test Free Agency? [VIDEO]

The Detroit Lions have either shown their fondness for Ndamukong Suh or insulted him.

Reality TV show makes fun of guest star Ndamukong Suh for stomping on Matt Schaub

It's for Suh to decide.

NFL.com reported Tuesday that the Lions will allow their talented but sometimes controversial defensive tackle to test the free-agent market after the season. According to NFL.com, the franchise wants to make sure that Suh signs a deal that makes him happy.

"Detroit would rather know the behemoth's asking price rather than have Suh sign a deal deemed as team-friendly," NFL.com reported. "In essence, the Lions don't want their star player to agree to a pact that he'll regret down the road."

The Lions are trying to send the message that they really care about their players' feelings and want to do what's fair. But what the Lions really could be saying is that they know Suh has an overinflated opinion of his value.

So let the rest of the league tell Suh how little he is worth so that the Lions look like the good guys when they re-enter negotiations after the season. As if they couldn't renegotiate with him down the road.

Maybe the Lions think that other teams will be hesitant to sign Suh because of his reputation as one of the dirtiest players in the league.

The move is especially curious, considering the fact that the Lions are demanding credit for tabling talks on a new deal with Suh until after the season. Lions president Tom Lewand said he remained optimistic that the team will reach a deal with Suh after the season.

Suh, who is entering his fifth season, is a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro. His best season statistically came during his rookie season in 2010 when he had 65 tackles (48 solo) with 10 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

And players tend to have career seasons when they are trying to earn more money. If the Lions' plan works, it'll likely be because Suh wants to stay in Detroit.
